Martin Polaine was invited as a guest speaker by the London Centre of International Law Practice (LCILP) for their webinar, ‘Out of the Rubble: Implications of the Al Mahdi case’.
In August 2016, Ahmad Al Faqi Al Mahdi pleaded guilty before the International Criminal Court (ICC) to intentionally directing attacks against historic monuments and buildings dedicated to religion. The discussion examined the likely implications for bringing perpetrators of such crimes to justice in the future and for the reputation of the ICC itself.
