Arvinder Sambei was invited by the Council of Europe to participate in the training of prosecutors and deputy prosecutors on the ECHR standards and the case law of the European Court of Human Rights in application of Article 5 (right to liberty and security) and Article 6 (right to a fair trial) of the Convention. The training was aimed at assisting prosecutors in applying the principles of the Convention and ECtHR jurisprudence when conducting their prosecutorial functions: case review, operational decisions (where they oversee or direct an investigation) and court proceedings (trial and appeal). The two day event was based on practical case studies, analysing the decisions of the participants and presentations by the training team which included national trainers.

The workshop was developed by the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade under the Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey initiative, a 3 year programme and addresses 3 main themes: ensuring justice, fighting economic crime and combating discrimination & protecting the rights of vulnerable groups.
