Martin Polaine was invited by the Council of Europe to give a keynote address at the Conference on ‘International Co-operation in Criminal Matters: Human Rights Perspective’ to mark the 60th year of the European Convention on Mutual Legal Assistance.
The conference was attended by members of the Serbian judiciary, diplomats, prosecutors, and representatives of the Serbian Ministries and international organisations.
The event was organized within the Action "Supporting Effective Remedies and Mutual Legal Assistance", which is being implemented in Serbia as a part of the joint Council of Europe and the European Union Programme “Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey”.
Martin was asked to address the role of international co-operation in criminal matters, the underlying principles and human rights considerations in both the MLA and extradition context.
