small states 2025 dispute resolution panelOn November 13, a significant milestone in international dialogue was marked by the Small States Conference: Small States, Big Futures: A Decade of Dialogue. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, this event brought back speakers from the inaugural conference in 2015 to share their insights and reflections on the past decade.

Among the esteemed speakers was Martin Polaine, who addressed a vital topic: “The Integration of ESG and Human Rights Obligations into International Investment Law: Opportunity or Pitfall for a Small State?” With a focus on the unique challenges and opportunities faced by small states within the evolving landscape of international investment, Martin's presentation contributed to the rich discussions surrounding sustainable investment practices and human rights.

The event provided a platform for meaningful exchange among small states, showcasing their collective initiatives and perspectives as they navigate the complexities of global investment law and policy in an era increasingly concerned with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria.

This conference reaffirms the importance of continuous dialogue in shaping the futures of small states, offering them both opportunities and challenges as they seek to enhance their positions within the international community.
